political persuasion

We had a discussion tonight of what was the best way to participate in the democratic process... should you vote, even though you wont research really who you want to vote for and just go on superficial persuasion to decide? I mean, isn't not knowing enough of the truth why Bush was elected in the first place?

Is it better to not bother to vote if you arent going to bother to make an informed decision?

My recommendation is that everyone come up with a platform that he/she can create in an off election year. Look how the parties stand on some common issues and all personalities and propaganda aside, decide what your core beliefs are. Then just apply that to any vote that comes up, taking the time once to really reflect on who you are can help your choices reflect a consistent vision of where you want this country to go... even if you are a but one lone voice... perhaps repetition with consistency will strengthen your voice.

visual accruity

The visual is important to a graphic designer. every element has to pleasing to the eye. its hard to go somewhere or do something that isnt pleasing to these two eyes. this sounds superficial...maybe it is, but a designers life is how things look and how intuitive and simple they are. How can you make something more elegant. more simplistic. more functional. and more rich in the details. My car is VW, not because of many other reasons than it looks Euro and has blue gauges. Something else it has, when you open the back gate the gate opens parallel to the top antennae. Thats a cool detail. Thats also why i have a powerbook, a fancy phone, and quality clothes... though i never try to pay full price for any of it its rewarding to be around things made by designers i admire. Maybe i can imbue it into my own work.

I am "Un Californien." I have international recognition to the site, which is almost at 40,000.

mini interest

what a crazy day. I posted my page on how to upgrade an ipod mini by adding an 8GB seagate drive last night. as of this writing, 25431 people have visited my page here

to learn how to do the update and my story was picked up by macnn here

Its amazing the power of the internet. something i wrote last night reached a whole 25 THOUSAND people. its fun and feels good, of course, i dont think i can come up with an interesting idea that 25k people would be interested in every day... but i can try.

oh and i smashed my wheel into a pothole today and destroyed my tire.

Lots of interesting debate today surrounding the execution of Tookie Williams. This man started the Crypts in LA, as well as killed 4 people. However, I believe he should not be put to death, because the entire state of California will be doing to him what he did to others.

Many other arguments against the death penalty:
1. Its NOT a deterrent for crime. Criminals live in fear of death on the streets every day.
2. Logic follows if commit a murder, I COULD be put to death. However, most crimes are heat of the moment, when there is no logic or reason in your mind.
3. Cost: It costs taxpayers MORE to put someone to death than keep them in prison for life.

Would i feel this way if it were my own child that was killed? I HOPE so... but that isnt the point. The point is the state shouldn't exact revenge for me, as i would be in heat of passion as much as he was. All this, yet still 2/3s of people are FOR revenge killings (im sorry, capital punishment). I agree the governor probably shouldn't have stayed the execution... the problem is that the death penalty exists in the first place. They even called his killings 'execution style'.... but isn't that exactly what we are doing to him?

Larry King brought up consistency of your beliefs. I think its funny that i think kids can be murdered before they are born but adults cannot be, even after they commit a horrible crime. Conservatives are the opposite. Conservatives say abortion is 'playing God' and as one writer put it "abortion is the one way the right DOESNT like killing people."

So all i have to say is, sorry Tookie on behalf of the state. God please forgive us for judging and killing one of yours. Are we playing God now?

individual competition

ive always said that i like individual sports. i like it when i only have myself to compete against because i feel like incremental achievement is an accomplishment. ive started to realize why this might be so: i feel i am always in competition with other men -- in sports or in life -- competition for the best job or the best girl. I think that is why i can't make small talk, im afraid i might not measure up. (Literally!) I think is one reason i feel comfortable around gay men, im not in competition. My best friends are those i can be myself around and im not competing with. when is competition healthy and when is it too much?

knight rider is no where near as cool as it was when i was little.
